Chasing
Lean
Can a fat man in his fifties get fast enough to qualify for a UCI Gravel World Championship?
Yorkshireman, racing out of Kildare, Ireland. Self-coached. Every number here is measured, and most of them are not good yet.
Where it is now
A bike race is decided by watts per kilo. 296 watts carried by 102.7 kilos is 2.88. The target is 4.47.

The weight line
Things don't always go to plan. Weight goes down, weight goes up. The trend is there.

Grades
Irish veteran racing is graded by ability, not age, and you are promoted on results. Black usually races shorter than the grades above it. The rest often race the same distance as each other — what changes is who you are racing.
Tests
Published before they are taken. A test moved to a better day no longer compares to the last one.

Races
Three UCI starts in six weeks next spring. They count toward that season's Worlds rather than the one being chased, so they are a benchmark — the first real read on where I finish in the age group.
